WHO Working Paper 1.3
Present: Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Malawi & Zimbabwe
1. Approach MSF and World Vision for support in terms of educating health professionals within our region in proper screening and triage.
a. Emphasis on a program where educated health care professionals will act as a transmission vector for information between the government and public so as to address this pandemic as effectively as possible keeping cultural sensitivity on the forefront.
i. Urban areas we are more concerned with proper triage and treatment of confirmed cases
ii. Rural areas we hope to educate health care workers in preparation for an outbreak in terms of proper screening and procedure in the event of a outbreak
2. The development of a step-by-step procedure for addressing screening and cases that can be potentially widely-applicable for all of Africa
3. Ensuring the required resources for proper implementation of the aforementioned health care program
i. Approaching Merck in hopes of working off a pre-existing partnership in obtaining treatment at a reduced price as has been done with ARVs in the recent past
ii. Johnson and Johnson has also be approached in obtaining subsidized face-masks and hand sanitizers to initiate a program for limiting transmission
iii. As well TEVA will be approached to gain more knowledge of their offered products and pricing to prevent a monopolized provision of treatment
4. Obtaining support from Western nations, as many African nations are lacking infrastructure and resources which will only be further degraded by loss of human capital due to the spread of the pandemic
